Top (I couldn’t get any lower than 23) Oldies Songs Everyone Should Know – in no particular order

I truly don’t think our generation appreciates the music of our past as much as we should.  I have more fun dancing and singing to oldies songs than I any of the popular music of today. So take a look, or more importantly, a listen to the songs on this list and try to tell me you don’t feel at least a little bit happier. I bet you it is just about impossible.

P.s. there is no way I could possibly fit all of the great oldies songs onto one short list. There are many, many, many more amazing songs/artists out there that aren’t included but are definitely noteworthy.

  1. Van Morrison – Really any of his songs. He is one of my favorite artists of all time and it kills me to choose just one, but if I had     to, I would choose Into the Mystic, which is arguably one of his best songs. Of course, I couldn’t possibly recommend Van Morrison without mentioning Brown Eyed Girl. This song is such a classic, I don’t know if it even needs to be mentioned on this list, but I’ll include it anyway.
  2. Billy Joel – Only The Good Die Young – An anthem for misbehavin’.
  3. The Beatles – I Want to Hold Your Hand –No oldies list would be complete without a Beatles song, but this song in particular never gets old.
  4. Earth Wind And Fire – September – This is a great song if you are feeling particularly groovy.
  5. Frank Sinatra – The Way You Look Tonight – Frank Sinatra is simply wonderful. Our generation has settled for love songs asking girls what they’re gonna do with all of their “lovely lady lumps,” but the older generation had true romance with the smooth, crooning vocals of music’s original heart throb. If you are going to know any of his songs, you should definitely know this one.
  6. Jackson 5 – I Want You Back – Young Michael Jackson’s vocals are unreal and the upbeat tune to this song is so catchy you wont be able to keep yourself from dancing, smiling, and singing along.
  7. Led Zeppelin – Over the Hills and Far Away – This is one of their lesser known songs, but a favorite of mine.
  8. Louis Prima – Pennies from Heaven – This is the perfect addition to your play list if you’re in need of a pick me up
  9. Rolling Stones – Start me Up – I am a firm believer that just about everyone loves/or will eventually develop a love of the stones. This is the perfect song to start you out on your love affair.
  10. The Temptations – My Girl – Le duh.
  11. Steve Miller Band – The Joker – Whether you’re a self-conscious shower singer or “that girl” singing the loudest at the bar, this is the perfect sing-along song to add to your repertoire. Listen a couple times, learn the words, and then blast it in your car/house/shower/party and enjoy.
  12. Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young – Suite: Judy Blue Eyes – The harmonies these guys created are incredible in every one of their songs; I just like this one in particular.
  13. Al Green – Love and Happiness – The beginning of this song gets me every damn time, I love it.
  14. Hall and Oates – You Make My Dreams – An ideal song to brighten any day.
  15. Michael Jackson – PYT – If I had to choose only one song to dance to for the rest of my life, this would be it.
  16. Elvis Presley – Hound Dog – My classics playlist wouldn’t be complete without one song from the king himself.
  17. Aretha Franklin – I Say A Little Prayer – After the king, I gotta include the queen.
  18. Prince – Kiss – No one can compete with Prince’s unique style
  19. Creedance Clearwater Revival – Susie Q – Baby I love you.
  20. Etta James – At Last – The sweet melody of this song creates such a beautiful, classic, and smooth, listening experience.
  21. Marvin Gaye – Aint No Mountain High Enough – Come on now, you’ve got to know this one.
  22. Simon and Garfunkel – Mrs. Robinson – Be sure to go out and watch The Graduate while you are at it.
  23. Stevie Wonder – Signed Sealed Delivered I’m Yours – Stevie Wonder’s music just makes you happy.
